A SCIENCE AND SAILING EXPERIENCE

This unique program is based in exploration!  It is a fun combination of sailing and science and how discovery in both fields can work together in a STEM based program.

These classes are taught in partnership with Iowa Lakeside Laboratories and the Okoboji Sailing Center. Students will discover areas of science that include limnology, geology, dendrology and ornithology studies while sailing to destinations around West Lake Okoboji.

June 9-10  Where Did These Lakes Come From?  
A regional focus on the Great Lakes Area formation that includes geologic and archeological perspectives. Afternoon sailing.

June 16-17 What's Swimming With Us? 
​
A regional focus on the Great Lakes Area aquatic environments. Afternoon sailing.

June 23-24 Feathers, Tails and Sails – How do birds fly and sailboats sail?  
Students will be challenged to learn the principals of winged flight with a focus on the concepts of lift and how it works to power sailboats. Afternoon sailing


June 30-July 1 What Trees are These?   
A focus on the Great Lakes Area native tree species.  Afternoon sailing.


July 14-15 Biomimicry - Exploring Nature Inspired Inventions. An introduction to biomimicry through exploration and problem solving. Afternoon sailing.
