Notice of Non-Discriminatory Policy

The Okoboji Yacht Club Sailing School, Inc. admits students of any race, creed, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or religion to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school.  It does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or religion in the administration of its educational policies, scholarship and loan programs, athletic programs, or other school administered programs.

Policies and Recommendations

Requirements:  Students must bring and wear their own US Coast Guard approved life jackets at all times when on the water during classes.  Students must be able to swim 50 yards with a life jacket on.  Footwear which is water compatible, such as aqua socks, tie-on footwear, or similar wear is required to prevent slipping.

X-Boats must sail with their sail panels during all lessons.

Lunches:  Students whose class includes a lunch break should bring a sack lunch, which may be kept in the refrigerator at the Okoboji Sailing Center.  There will be a microwave available for cooking or heating food. Bag lunches are also available for purchase.

Non-Sailing Day Policy:  We will make every effort to sail whenever possible.  When the weather makes sailing impossible, time will be concentrated on didactic course studies, problem solving, rule review, instructional or sailing related recreational videos, and/or games, as appropriate to student and class needs.

Recreation:  Lunch time will afford an opportunity for the development of further friendship while playing group games.

Recommended book for beginning sailors:  Sailing for Kids by Gary & Steve Kibble.

Initial Class Placement:  This will be determined by age and experience.  Progression will allow movement to more experienced course levels as demonstrated.

Scholarships:  Tuition assistance is available and may be extended to those families who apply and meet the requirements.  Please inquire for additional information.
