ADVENTURE SAILING
NO SAILING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Ages 10-14 This unique program is based in exploration! It is a fun combination of sailing and science and how discovery in both fields can work together in a STEM based program. These classes are taught in partnership with Iowa Lakeside Laboratories and the Okoboji Sailing Center. Students will discover areas of science that include limnology, geology, physics and ornithology studies while sailing to field trip destinations around West Lake Okoboji. Feathers, Tails and Sails – How do birds fly and sailboats sail? June 17-18 (repeated June 24-25) Students will be challenged to learn the principals of winged flight with a focus on the concepts of lift and how it works to power sailboats. What's swimming with us? July 8-9 THIS CLASS IS FULL WITH a FULL WAITLIST A regional focus on the Great Lakes Area aquatic environments as seen from a sailboat. Where did the lakes come from? July 22-23 THIS CLASS IS FULL WITH a FULL WAITLIST A regional focus on the Great Lakes Area formation that includes geologic and archeological perspectives. Afternoon sailing. THE BEES AND THE BREEZE August 3-5 Adventures in sailing and Pollination ecology.
